Harassment (N.J.S.A. 2C:33-4) &
Cyber Harassment (N.J.S.A. 2C:33-4.1)
Harassment: Pursuant to N.J.S.A. 2C:33-4, a person commits harassment if, with the purpose to harass another he:

Makes, or causes to be made, one or more communications anonymously or at extremely inconvenient hours, or in offensively coarse language, or any other manner likely to cause annoyance or alarm;

Subjects another to striking, kicking, shoving, or other offensive touching, or threatens to do so; or
-
Engages in any other course of alarming conduct or of repeatedly committed acts with purpose to alarm or seriously annoy such other person.

Petty Disorderly Person’s Offense: Harassment is generally a petty disorderly persons offense, which is punishable by up to 30 days in jail.
4th Degree Offense: Harassment can be a 4th degree offense if, in committing the harassment, he was serving a term of imprisonment, was on parole, or was on probation for any felony offense. It is also a 4th degree offense if the harassment is knowingly directed to a current or former judge in a way that relates to the performance of the judge’s public duties. A 4th degree offense is punishable by up to 18 months in New Jersey State Prison.
Cyber Harassment: Pursuant to N.J.S.A. 2C:33-4.1, a person commits the crime of cyber-harassment if, while making one or more communications in an online capacity via any electronic device or through a social networking site and with the purpose to harass another, the person:

Threatens to inflict injury or physical harm to any person or the property of any person;

Knowingly sends, posts, comments, requests, suggests, or proposes any lewd, indecent, or obscene material to or about a person with the intent to emotionally harm a reasonable person or place a reasonable person in fear of physical or emotional harm to his person; or
-
Threatens to commit any crime against the person or the person's property.

3rd Degree Offense: If the person is 21 years of age or older and impersonates a minor for the purpose of cyber harassing the minor then the offense is a 3rd degree, which is punishable by up to 5 years in New Jersey State Prison.

4th Degree Offense: All other cyber harassment is a 4th degree offense, which is punishable by up to 18 months in New Jersey State Prison.
